As promised yesterday, I now bring to you my favorite use for Challah bread. Of course it is the most decadent to die for French toast.
I waited a day to bring you this recipe because it is best to use day old Challah bread to make french toast with. Because this bread has so much egg, it makes it the perfect vessels for the egg batter used to make French toast.
The first step is to take a loaf of challah bread and slice it thick (The thicker you slice it the longer it should sit in the batter). Thick slices will make for a gooey center.
Challah French Toast
By David Green
You will need:
1 1/2 cups milk
2 tbls vanilla
1 tbls cinamon
2 tbls brown sugar
10 to 12 slices of day old challah bread
Butter or pan spray to coat the saute pan
Then you just simply combine all the ingredients and mix well. Soak each slice of bread on both sides. Cook it in a saute pan until golden brown on each side.
It is as simple as that to create a gourmet breakfast that anyone would die for. Enjoy
