Overcoming anxiety and stress is not just about getting medications. It involves lifestyle changes and even changing the diet. We have to live with the fact that anxiety is in our DNA. We need anxiety to help us focus and perform better. However, if anxiety and stress persist it can damage the body and mind. Luckily, choosing great foods can help. Here are some great recipes that you can enjoy eating that will lead you towards a life that is relatively free from stress.

Quinoa with some fruits and nuts


Whole-grain foods like quinoa are rich in tryptophan. Tryptophan is a major ingredient in the production of serotonin. Whole-grain foods also have magnesium that can help against anxiety. Whole-grains are also rich in fiber which makes you feel fuller longer and help in weight loss and blood sugar management. Quinoa is a great example of a whole-grain foods. Combine a cup of quinoa with water and a pinch of salt in a pot and bring it to a boil. Then let it simmer. Stir in a tablespoon each of vinegar and vegetable oil. And then add two table spoons of sesame oil. Once done add three full-sized bananas chopped. Add chopped onions, half a cup of raisins, a pinch of cayenne and ¾ cup of pecans.

Nori seaweed salad


Seaweed is filled with tryptophan which can help against anxiety and stress. It also has iodine that can help produce more hormones that can help fight depression. Seaweed can turn into a great Nori salad. Tear up the lettuce and then chop the onion, mix them. Toast the seaweed Nori lightly, crush it then set aside. Add a few drops of olive oil into the lettuce and onion mix. Then, sprinkle some lemon juice and add a pinch of salt to the lettuce. Add the crushed Nori to the mix. Toss then serve chilled.

Blueberry and flaxseed pancake


Blueberries are rich in anti-oxidants and other phytochemicals. The super-chemicals in the blueberries are believed to be helpful against anxiety and stress. It appears that blueberries have chemicals that can help bring a calming effect. Turn your ordinary pancake into a power-packed flax-blueberry pancake. This recipe has anti-oxidants and Omega 3 fatty acids. Mix a pancake mix in a bowl together with half a cup of flaxseed. Add a cup of milk with two eggs. Add thawed blackberries into the mix. Put ¼ cup of batter into a greased skillet pre-heated over medium heat.

Glazed salmon


Salmon is a fatty fish that are rich in Omega 3. The American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association recommends eating at least two servings of fatty fish each week. Omega 3 is great in lowering the inflammation in the body and help against depression. Having glazed salmon for dinner can be a great way to improve stress and anxiety. Combine in a bowl ¼ cup of brown sugar and two tablespoons of soy sauce and then heat it. Cook some brown rice and set aside. Steam one broccoli head. Put a pound of salmon in a baking sheet and drizzle it with oil and salt. Broil the salmon until opaque and use the sugar-soy sauce mix and glaze the fish. Serve salmon with the rice and pour the remaining glaze.

Beef is rich in riboflavin which can help release anti-stress hormones. In a pan, saute a pound of mushrooms, a large onion julienned, a piece of red pepper chopped and minced garlic. Remove it and set aside. On the same pan, stew meat in the pan with a dash of olive oil. Cook until tender. Add the ingredients that were set aside five minutes before servings. Serve with brown rice and other veggies.

Fried tilapia with almonds


Almonds are rich in zinc that can help maintain a good mood. It is also rich in beneficial fats that can help avert brain fatigue. Tilapia is a fatty fish that has iodine and riboflavin. Fry a medium-sized tilapia fillets seasoned with black pepper and salt. In a blender, chop ¼ cup of almonds. Dredge the tilapia with the almonds. Before serving sprinkle the fish with some almonds.
